Shin Arima started his career at the age of 19 at a local hair salon in Nagasaki Japan. After working there for six years he relocated to London to further his training and studying at the Vidal Sassoon Academy.
After graduating from the academy, Arima moved to New York to begin his career in editorial hair styling where he began assisting Bob Recine for a number of years on shoots and backstage at fashion week in New York, Milan and Paris.
His work is inspired by his love of photography. His favorites include, Diane Arbus, Amy Arbus, Nan Goldin and David Armstrong. These visuals are what has guided his career and serve as the inspiration of his own unique style.
Arima’s work has been featured in many of the Vogues across the world, including US, Japan and Australia. He has also worked with titles such as Purple, CR Fashion Book, The Gentlewoman, Dazed and Harper’s Bazaar. His clients include, Nike, Nili Lotan, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang, Bergdorf Goodman and Victoria Beckham.
